Praetorian Digital Acquires Kaplan Fire & EMS to Expand Online Training Division

San Francisco, CA – Praetorian Digital, Inc, the leading digital media company in the public safety and local government market, today announced it has acquired Kaplan’s Fire & EMS online training unit, one of the leading online training companies serving fire and EMS departments nationwide.

The acquisition significantly expands Praetorian’s online training portfolio, which includes the FireRescue1 Academy, FireRescue1, PoliceOne Academy, Police1, LocalGovU, Corrections1 and soon-to-be-launched EMS1 Academy. In addition, the acquisition complements the depth of content and services Praetorian offers first responders through its industry-leading news and information sites FireRescue1, EMS1, Police1 and Corrections1 – the top websites in the world for first responders with more than 1.3 million members and 6 million online visitors per month.

Going forward, Kaplan Fire & EMS will be renamed the Fire EMS Academy and join Praetorian’s Fire EMS Academy Division, which together with the FireRescue1 Academy will now offer more than 200 full length training courses and 600 training videos as well as 80 hours of EMS continuing education credit certified by CECBEMS (Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services). The combined library will include the popular Medic Monthly series and cover all facets of fire and EMS training to create one of the largest repositories of fire and EMS training in the world. Together, they will continue to provide best-in-class content and training to more than 350 agencies and thousands of individuals each year and are the only education provider to partner with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) for EMS continuing education.

“We are thrilled to expand Praetorian’s mission more broadly in Fire and EMS and to build upon the reputation for high quality video based training content and customer service Kaplan Fire & EMS has been delivering upon for years,” said Alex Ford, CEO of Praetorian Digital. “Kaplan Fire EMS shares our commitment to delivering high quality, dynamic training content and provides us with an incredible platform to rapidly expand our Fire EMS Academy Division and offer a wider array of content and modern technology solutions to both our current clients and the departments Kaplan Fire & EMS currently serves.”

Kaplan Fire & EMS was founded in 2002 by the National Paramedic Institute as EMS Jane and was acquired by Kaplanin 2008. Of the training that Kaplan Fire & EMS offers to fire and EMS departments, 64% percent of courses delivered consist of accredited EMS content, and the remainder addresses a wide range of Fire topics from Firefighter I &II curriculum to fire officer training.

As part of Praetorian’s Fire EMS Academy Division, current customers of Kaplan Fire & EMS will immediately gain access to the FireRescue1 Academy content and additional hours of EMS training from EMS1. Over time, they’ll have the opportunity to integrate FireRescue1 and EMS1’s extensive library of expert-written articles into their training as well as take advantage of Praetorian’s technology expertise and state of the art learning and records management system, which launched in April 2015 and currently serves more than 700 police and fire clients nationwide.
